Company History

Founded in 1893 by Erik Peterson, Rio Grande Co. began as a supplier of coal, hay, and feed to Denver’s west side. In 1908, Elmer Peterson took over and renamed the company Rio Grande Fuel and Feed Company. Under the leadership of his son Don starting in 1958, the company expanded into construction materials and became the Rio Grande Co. we know today.
